    Water Restrictions

    Changes to Level Two Water Restrictions (as follows) are in place from Friday April 16, 2010. 

    DOMESTIC / RESIDENTIAL

    Garden / Lawn Watering
    (hours of use subject to change)

     

    Sprinklers and automatic watering systems are permitted between 6pm and 8pm during Daylight Savings Time and between 4pm and 6pm outside Daylight Savings Time on the Alternate Days (odds and evens street numbering) system.  Micro sprays, drip systems, and hand held hoses are permitted between 5pm and 10am on any day.

    Swimming Pools

    Filling of new pools permitted on any day. Top up of existing pools using a hand held hose is permitted between 6pm and 8pm during Daylight Savings Time and between 4pm and 6pm outside Daylight Savings Time on the Alternate Days system.

    Washing Paved Areas, Buildings and Rooves

    Buckets only except as required by law.

    New Turf Laying

    Restrictions the same as those listed above for Garden / Lawn
    Watering.

     Private Washing of Motor Vehicles

    Washing of cars is permitted on grassed surfaces only, using a hose with a trigger nozzle between 6pm and 8pm during Daylight Savings Time and between 4pm and 6pm outside Daylight Savings Time on the Alternate Days system.

    PUBLIC / COMMERCIAL
    Public Gardens, Sports Grounds, Cemetery, School Ovals & Open Space Areas

    Sprinklers and hand held hoses permitted for 6hrs/day between 5pm and 10am on any day.

    Market Gardens and Orchards

    Sprinklers and hand held hoses permitted for 6hrs/day between 5pm and 10am on any day.

    Nurseries & Commercial Flower Gardens

    Sprinklers and hand held hoses permitted for 4hrs/day between 5pm and 10am on any day.

    Auto Car Wash & Car Sale Outlets

    No restrictions on car washing operations. Garden / lawn watering permitted between 5pm and 10am on any day.

    Bowling Greens, Motels, Nursing Homes, Schools

    Sprinklers and hand held hoses permitted for 4hrs/day between 5pm and 10am on any day.

    Water Cartage from Town Supply

    Only with Council approval.

    Fountains & Automatic Cycle Flush Toilets

    No Restrictions.

    Japanese Garden

    Fixed sprinklers may not be used between 10am and 5pm on any day.  No other restrictions.

    Cowra Aquatic Centre

    No restrictions on filling / topping pool. Garden / lawn watering
    permitted between 5pm and 10am on any day.

    INDUSTRIAL
    Abattoirs, Windsor Farm, Palos Verdos, and Intensive Agriculture Industries

    No restrictions for industrial purposes only.  Garden / lawn watering permitted between 5pm and 10am on any day.

    Alternate Days:

    • Odd Street Property Numbers—Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
    • Even and un-numbered Street Properties—Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

    Other Notes:

    • Residents of Bendick Murrell, Brundah, Darbys Falls, Greenethorpe, Koorawatha, Noonbinna, Wattamondara, Wirrimah and Wyangala and the rural properties surrounding these villages are subject to the same restrictions as Cowra residents.
    • Billimari residents are advised they are currently not under water restrictions.
    • Residents that are supplied water by Central Tablelands Water are reminded to adhere to current restrictions being imposed by Central Tablelands Water. This includes customers serviced at Gooloogong, Woodstock, Westville and Pearce’s Scheme. Phone (02) 6368 2208 for more information or to apply for an exemption.
    • Sprinklers include soaker hoses and pop up sprinklers.

    Exemptions:
    Anyone seeking a variation of the restrictions will need to apply to Council in writing on an application form available on request from Council.

    Penalties:
    Use of water contrary to this notice may result in:

    • Court action where a maximum penalty of up to $5500 in the case of a corporation or $550 in the case of an Individual may be sought;
    • Authorised officers may issue an on the spot penalty notice for $220 to either a corporation or individual and/or;
    • A restriction on service or disconnection of water supply (note that in the case of restoration of supply, a reconnection fee will apply).

    Privately Owned Water Supplies:
    If your property is supplied with water from a well or bore it is mandatory for you to display a sign clearly visible from the street adjoining the property being watered whilst restrictions are in place. The notice should be large enough to be visible from the street and should state: “Well water/Bore water used on Property” (whichever applies).
